The brief
The brief called for a functional building with a clear identity that would also serve as a landmark for the City. The Greek Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport and Networks

HONORABLE MENTION
The brief required the creation of a space no more than 120sqm that would be placed on a given pier of 345sqm. Our concept is based on the intention to incorporate the pier to the final synthesis. To reclaim the whole pier rather than leave leftover parts, surround the built space. To achieve that, we employed two different design strategies: Firstly, we distributed the program into a system of units that were spread on the pier creating open spaces of different qualities - semi-open, hidden, protected etc. Secondly we created a shed - a light structure made of steel space-frame and perforated fabric - to cover the whole area and provide protection from the sun the wind and the rain. The latter, being the most eminent synthetic gesture makes the synthesis a landmark for the City. At night - aided by the use of special light fittings - the shed transforms into an Urban Luminaire.
