ARCHITECTURE AND THE CITY IN SE EUROPE
The brief
Exhibition space for the first architectural biennale of Thessaloniki, reuniting works from foreign universities.1st Architecture Biennale of Thessaloniki
January 2012
The exhibition entitled ‘Architecture and the City in SouthEast Europe’ gathered 25 projects of students from analogue schools of architecture from 17 Southeast European cities. The concept for the design derived from the intention of providing separate, distinct areas to the 15 participations, which were exhibited at the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art. Each area is defined by a closed, crooked line that includes parts of the floor and the walls. The line changes direction when it changes planes, behaving like a shadow projected on different surfaces. Architectural models, installations, drawings and videos were exhibited inside these designated areas, in an attempt of the new generation of architects to communicate the methods employed in order to deal with the issues of The City. Participants were encouraged to create works especially for this exhibition.
