LEX_ICON

Proposal for Immigrants’ Reception Areas Commissioned by HOME MAGAZINE

The limits of my language means the limits of my world

Ludwig Wittgenstein

Lex_icon is offered as a welcome gift. Lex_icon is a communication apparatus that encourages the expression of emotion, need and desire skipping the language limitations. Lex_icon is a manual of unreported freedom that creates the illusion of living space expansion for as long as Europe chooses to leave the matter in abeyance.

GLASNOST

GLASNOST

Installation

This project was created in September 2007 for the exhibition “Other Places” curated by Apostolos Kalfopoulos, for Biennale: 1. We were invited to present an artwork that would express the heterotopic space of the school, from the architect’s point of view. We created a PVC pattern of an existing old school that we placed as a hanging open envelope. The concept was to illustrate the need for an educational system that opens in order to interact to the society around it.

THE HOTCHAIR

Interior Design

In 2002 k&k architects designed the office of a graphic design lab named The Hotchair. Since then k&k architects have collaborated with The Hotchair in numerous projects. We all worked long hours in this small ground level space. In 2007 The Hotchair closed. We thought it would be a pity to leave this space become another shop, so we proposed to Vassilios Bartzokas from Carteco to house in it his idea for a 24/7 material's library. The Archive was born.

“I am not tired”

15 minutes of fame is a 30’’ video serving as its creator’s personal advertisement in a hypothetical job interview. The ad would replace the common portfolio with a more direct self-presentation that would reveal the essence of each candidate’s qualities. The project was created as an assignment for the postgraduate course MA Design Studies in Central Saint Martin’s, in 2000

ZORRO'S LADDER

Communication Medium

ZORRO'S LADDER

Communication Medium

The aim of this project was the creation of an innovative communication medium. At that time we used to live with an adolescent cat that was very anxious to find a way outdoors. We decided to build a green porous cylindrical bridge, connecting the 3rd floor flat with the ground floor back yard. The ladder had a switch on, which, when pressed by the cat, it activated a red lamp in the living room. This was the cat’s way to tell us he was back home. The project was created as an assignment for the postgraduate course MA Design Studies in Central Saint Martin’s, in 2000
