The briefArchitectural concept and design of the Retrospective exhibition of architect Dimitris A. Fatouros’s work at the Benaki Museum.
Benaki Museum, Athens,
Teloglion Foundation or art, Thessaloniki,
The exhibition attempts an overview of the architect’s artistic work as well as a presentation of his academic work and his writings. The space is formed through the repetition of one element which is a cardboard, table high, trapezium. The trapeziums put together, form a giant size table placed in the middle of the exhibition hall creating sometimes narrow linear areas and sometimes wider hexagonal areas. All the exhibition material, models, books etc. is placed on the table, while the photos, the designs and the sketches that accompany the models are printed straight on the table’s horizontal surface. The concept behind this geometrical structure is to create the impression that the final form of the table captures one of the endless possible arrangements of the trapeziums. The cardboard structure evokes the architectural model making procedure, giving the impression that the space is a full size model of itself. A metal wire frame hexagonal structure suspended above the table is used to hold the lights.
